A middle aged man has died inside the swimming pool of Helena hotel, Ijapo Estate, Akure, the Ondo state capital, with an investigation revealing that the same pool mysteriously claimed lives of lodgers or fun seekers usually every year to every two years.
It was gathered that the latest victim was a guest at the hotel and decided to swim before he met his death inside the pool.
It was also gathered that efforts by other swimmers to rescue the victim whose name is yet unknown was not successful.
One of the staff who claimed anonymity told our reporter that the ugly incident actually occurred but he was not on duty to give accurate account of what happened.
The manager of the hotel, Mr Rotimi Betiku who refused to comment explained that the police had waded into the case.
A staff told our reporter that "every year or two two years, we record one or two casualties inside the swimming pool, this is strange o, you can even talk to police, they will tell you the truth".
Speaking in an interview, the Police public relations officer, Ondo state command, Mr Femi Joseph confirmed that the deceased lodged in with his two friends and they decided to swim.
According to Mr Joseph, the deceased was not a good swimmer ,hence the ugly incident and that autopsy and other investigation had commenced on the case while no arrest was made.
Reacting to allegations that there had been recurrence of such incident in Helena hotel, the PPRO said the police had not confirmed any complicity in the case.
