In compliance with the national directive, the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, RUGIPO chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP has embarked on an indefinite strike.
Chairman of ASUP RUGIPO chapter, Rafiu Ijawoye made this known while speaking with newsmen in the institution.
It could be recalled that after the National Executive Council meeting of ASUP held on Saturday at the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State, the National Body of ASUP said it will commence an indefinite strike today 13th November 2017.
According to ASUP, the industrial action follows the failure of the Federal Government to implement all the agreements it entered with the union since 2016.
ASUP President, Usman Dutse, and Zone A Coordinator, Kabiru Yunusa said at the weekend that the union had given government sufficient time to implement all agreements, hence they had no choice than to embark on an indefinite strike after the expiration of the 21- day ultimatum issued earlier.
According to Dutse, some of the demands include non-implementation of the NEEDS Assessment Report and shortfalls in personnel releases and withdrawal of allowances among others.
