A former senator representing Ondo central senatorial district and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief Ayo Akinyelure has told the Ondo state governor, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to appoint more APC members from Idanre local government area into viable political appointments.
Akinyelure in a letter written to the governor and seen by SUNSHINE HERALD on Tuesday said loyalists of the party in the local government made it possible for the APC to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the November 26, 2016 Ondo guber poll in all the 10 wards despite open confrontation and Intimidation.
"We stood our ground and defeated them hands down. It was a show-down in Idanre LGA.
"We moved our winning structure to APC to install the present government of Akeredolu but Idanre people have not been adequately compensated by his Government in appointment of qualified Idanre indigenes to represent the interest of the local government in his administration.
"One constitutional appointment of a commissioner to Idanre is not adequate. We need more appointments of chairmen of viable government parastatals to come to Idanre as legitimate demand for our efforts to deliver Idanre for APC in the last election for Mr Governor.
"The appointment of APC party chairman of Idanre local government, Chief Ojo Alalabiaye as Education Secretary is not enough compensation by Mr Governor, I declared as a matter of rights for my people.
"Idanre needs more representation at the State level bearing in mind that Idanre people contributes over 70% of total Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) of Ondo State Government annually, therefore, apart from 100% political support achieved for APC in the last election, Idanre LGA should be more patronized in terms of political Appointments," he said.
The former lawmaker noted that two local governments which the APC lost to the opposition party in the southern senatorial district have produced more representatives in key positions at the Akeredolu's administration than Idanre, which gave the governor 100% support.
"Therefore, I am using this medium to reach out to Mr. Governor as a political stakeholder and leader in Ondo Central, to consider more Idanre people in his administration through further appointments to compensate dedicated members of APC now wallowing in abject poverty in the LGA.
"Knowing fully well that as a distinguished senator, I am a senior citizen and can't take up appointment to serve at state level, but have the right to point out to Mr Governor where my people have not been well compensated for their efforts in a party we jointly sponsored to make him the Governor, I submitted this position without any equivocation, and strongly urge Mr Governor to make positive amends without any further delay, because another election is knocking the door. One good turn deserves another, a word is enough for the wise."
