Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN of Ondo state says its time to stop using pilgrimages for business trips.

He also explained why his adminstration decided to stop state sponsorship of pilgrimages.

Akeredolu was speaking  while playing host to the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, Reverend Uja Tor Uja in his office in Akure.

While noting that paucity of funds and need for prudent management of the state resources necessitated the outright stoppage of sponsoring intending pilgrims to Mecca and Israel, Akeredolu added that it has become a government policy not to be involved in sponsoring pilgrims.

The governor  revealed that the state Christian Welfare Board would soon be constituted to   encourage churches and wealthy individuals to sponsor intending pilgrims.

Akeredolu who commended the commission for the initiative of taking christians to Israel to learn from their agricultural production system however cautioned that mixing both pilgrimage and business trips will amount to loss of focus on the part of those involved.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Reverend Uja Tor Uja described Governor Akeredolu as one of the few true christian politicians holding leadership positions.

He enjoined those working with him to ensure purposeful contribution towards moving the state to a greater height.

He encouraged all Nigerians to believe in the country's project and pray for the good of the nation.

President of the christian traditional rulers in Ondo state and the paramount ruler of Owo, Oba Folagbade Olateru Olagbegi, the state chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria CAN,  Rev John Ayo Oladapo among others were part of the visit.
