Beating of drums in the ancient town of Akure has been forbidden for the next seven days with effect from today (Sunday).
This is to enable the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi observe his annual Ilefunta festival and his leave during which he does not receive visitors or attend functions.
A statement by the Deji's chief press secretary, Michael Adeyeye said "In view of this, it is imperative to inform the general public that beating of drum under any guise during this seven days period is forbidden within Akure metropolis".
"The annual leave which will begin on Sunday 17th September will end on Saturday 23rd September, 2017."
Adeyeye said all roads leading to the palace will be blocked during this period while road users in this area are enjoined to use alternative and adjoining routes.
He added that all markets and stalls around the palace will be closed down during this period while residents are enjoined to comply with this directive and go about their lawful duties.
