Mayweather defeats McGregor with 10th round stoppage

Floyd Mayweather Jr. produced a technical knockout win over UFC champion and first-time boxer, Conor McGregor on Saturday night.

It was a brave effort from the Irishman, but in the end Mayweather was just too good.

McGregor was barely able to punch back in the 9th round and by the 10th, referee Robert Byrd dived in to save McGregor from any more punishment.

The victory improved Mayweather's record to 50-0, and allowed the typically defensive fighter to say farewell in thrilling fashion, in what he insisted was his last fight.

"I gave the fans what they wanted to see," Mayweather said after the fight.

"I told them that I owed them for the Pacquiao fight. I must come straight ahead and give them a show."
