Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has described the judiciary as one of the cardinal pillars on which society rests and also the tripod which carries and sustains the democratic system.
He made this known during the swearing-in of the Acting Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu, at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor's Office in Akure yesterday.
He said that the judiciary is saddled with the responsibility of dispensing justice without fear or favour, according to the law of the land.
"This sacred charge leaves no room for indulgence and sloppiness. Anyone who aspires to administer justice must be a 'fit and proper' person in all ramifications.
This appointment is no doubt, merited. It is coming at a crucial moment when there is the need for mutual cooperation among the three arms of government in the state." the Goveernor said.
Akeredolu enjoined other judges and workers in the judiciary to cooperate with the Acting Chief Judge for smooth administration of justice in the state.
"On our part, we are resolute in our commitment to keep the welfare of the people, the central focus of our activities. We shall continue to discharge our responsibilities without fear or favour", he stated.
He said that the principle of separation of powers assures civil liberty, hence no arm of government is allowed to ride rough shod over the others.
"No member of the executive, regardless of the misconceived notion of importance, should be indulged to the point when whimsies and capricious predilection override constitutional provisions.
"No citizen, however, must be dispossessed or discriminated against on account of birth, marriage, gender, religion or ethnicity.
"This administration will continue to be associated with merit and unwavering dedication to serve the people," he said.
Responding, the new Acting Chief Judge, Justice Olanrewaju Akeredolu attributed her appointment to God.
