The rising profile and visibility of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, as a leading citadel of learning of choice has received another attestation as the institution has been chosen as one of 10 tertiary institutions in Nigeria to benefit from donations of science equipment and upgrading of laboratories initiated by a private firm, Tunex Laboratory Engineering Limited.

The Managing Director of the firm, Mr. Tunji Olaleye, who dropped the hint during a courtesy visit to the University  last week, said the gesture was to mark the 30th year of operations of the firm and as a way of giving back to the society in fulfilment of its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Olaleye added that Adekunle Ajasin University has grown in leaps and bounds to become one of the most visible institutions in the country thus making its inclusion as a beneficiary easier.

He disclosed that the company would upgrade the University's Physics laboratory with modern equipment, chemicals and reagents to the tune of millions of naira at no cost to the institution.

Receiving the team, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, lauded the gesture as a welcome development especially coming from a private firm that has no prior dealings with the university.

Represented by his Deputy, Prof Olugbenga Ige, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the firm for including the institution as one of 10 tertiary institutions out of the over 100 universities in the country to benefit from the gesture.

"It is noteworthy that our university has been included as one of the few beneficiaries. That not only shows the fairness involved in choosing beneficiaries, but it highlights the rising profile and visibility of the fast-growing university.

" I therefore thank you on behalf of management and also appeal to you to look for other areas in which you can partner with us. We have other challenges like hostel accommodation for our students as well as pressing needs consistent with a growing university like ours."

The Vice Chancellor enjoined the group to take time out to enjoy the cool and serene ambience of the campus while carrying out their assignment.

In his vote of thanks, the Registrar, M. S. Ayeerun thanked the organisation for the gesture and called for more cooperation and collaboration in addressing other challenges facing the institution.

He enjoined Mr Olaleye and his team to help reach out to well-to-do sons and daughters of Ondo State in general and Akokoland in particular to invest in the University as a way of further lifting the institution and giving back to their birthplace.

Other officers of the University present at the event were; the Bursar, Olubunmi Ologun, FCA, University Librarian, Dr Rotimi Egunjobi, Dean of Science, Dr Ololade, Dean of Education, Prof Nireti Duyilemi, and other senior officers.
