Ondo State Government yesterday flagged off the implementation of State Integrated Financial Management Information Systems (SIFMIS), which was adopted in year 2014.
SIFMIS is a system globally adopted in order to run government activities effectively by moving from manual to digital operation and to be implemented through the office of the Accountant General of the State.
Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), commended the resilience and willingness of Ondo State workers to work for the good of the state regardless of the challenges.
He described the civil servants as some of the most hardworking and dedicated workers in the country.
"The process and progress made so far in the project has further reinforced my pride in Ondo State civil servants.
"We are starting a change with you because you are the engine room of government. SIFMIS will not take away your job, rather it will make it more efficient"
"It is a marvellous development in the State and I want all of us to welcome it. It is our commitment to the growth of our State.
"SIFMIS will support capacity building efforts aimed at erecting an institutional framework for the public service in compliance with world best global practice.
"Achieving this will further build on our existing relationships with local and international development partners as well as potential local and international investors," he said.
The Governor expressed belief that the project would change procurement, accounting processes, human resources and payroll, and reports generated.
He further solicited inputs and implored the workers to adopt SIFMIS as theirs.
Akeredolu however, pledged his unwavering support for the successful implementation of the project.
In his welcome address, the Coordinator of ODPSGRDP, Mr B. J. Daisi explained that the project has three major components which are Public Finance Management, PFM, Human Resources Management, and Monitoring and Evaluation system while SIFMIS is under PFM.
He noted that the system is geared towards accountability, efficiency and expertise for the people of the State, to robust and simplify financial reporting system.
Daisi acknowledged the support and commitment of the government to the entire projects of ODPSGRDP, adding that SIFMIS is to make civil service job a wonderful experience.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of SIFMIS, Dr. Peter Olayiwola noted that the system which Nigeria and some States have implemented is to allow the State become a modern e-governance type of government.

He explained that SIFMIS as a sub-component of ODPSGRDP is to support human resource management and payroll, planning and budgeting, transaction processing, accounting, auditing, and reporting on the use of financial resources through digital.
Olayiwola noted that the system is meant to empower civil servants, bring efficiency and effectiveness, adding that it is a system been used by international organisations.
The Secretary of SIFMIS in the State who doubles as the State Accountant-General Mr. Laolu Akindolire thanked the governor for his commitment to the project and appealed for the completion of ongoing building at his office to accommodate SIFMIS consultants.
