The Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu -Akeredolu, has called for equity, accessibility and affordability of health infrastructure and facilities for underprivileged women in rural communities in Nigeria.
She made the call at the commissioning of the Breast and Gynaecology Centre at Reddington Hospital, Lagos, yesterday.
She further stated that the health centre, which is a one stop health centre for women is a welcome development in addressing health challenges faced by Nigerian women, adding that the wellness centre – the first of its kind in Nigeria, will stem the tide of medical tourism.
Mrs Akeredolu, further said the facilities at the Centre will enable Nigerian women know more about their health status and understand their bodies, while urging them never to hesitate in reaching out to health practitioners once any abnormality is noticed.
Harping on awareness, the Wife of the Governor said "It is the first step in combating women's health challenges, especially those diseases that progress with time."
Commissioning the centre, Mrs Oludolapo Osinbajo, commended the management for taking and making available to women in Nigeria where they can get quality health care, as it is close to their loved ones without having to travel abroad.
In his address, the Medical Director of the Breast and Wellness Centre, Dr Charles Iwuala, stated that the centre is a testament of the importance paid to women's health in the present day Nigeria. He said the comprehensive wellness is coordinated to serve women's health in Nigeria.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included Wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi and Wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki among others.
