An Akure high court has sentenced a man, Laisi Dada to death by hanging after the court convicted him of killing two girls, Oyinkansola Owoeye and Folashade Bello in cold blood at iju, Akure last year.
The judge, Justice O. O. Akeredolu while delivering judgment said the prosecution had filed information about the case in April 2016 which the condemned man was dragged before the court and charged with murder.
The defense counsel before he closed the case told the court that the convict is mentally unstable which had been confirmed by his father without any psychiatric test . The judge replied that the issue had gone beyond that stage.
The convict confessed to the crime to the police saying he acted alone and that he was promised a gun by one Honourable Gbenga who sent him to kill the girls, the police said all attempts to arrest the said man was unsuccessful.
The judge ruled that confession is the greatest evidence saying the defense counsel could not defend it and sentenced him to death by hanging.
