A lawmaker representing Ilaje Constituency (1) in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan and ten others have dumped the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progress Congress (APC). Akinruntan who led ten other members of the PDP who served in the last administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko to decamp to APC, hinged his decisions on the current crisis rocking the People's Democratic Party.
He said the move became necessary after a wide consultation with his followers and members of his constituency.
Secretary to the State government, Hon Ifedayo Abegunde who recieved the defectors into APC, described Hon Abayomi Akinruntan as a big fish that would help add more values to the APC-led administration and people of his constituency. Abegunde attributed the recent move by more members who joined APC to the pupolarity of the party and the right leadership being provided by Governor Akeredolu in the state. He said all the defectors would enjoy automatic wavers to fully benefit from the party just like other old members. The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Legislative Matters, Alhaji Taoofik Abdulsalam, said the party is happy with the development with, while assuring that the party would receive more defectors soon. Other defectors were those that served in the immediate past Mimiko-led administration. They are, a former Senior Special Assistant on Union Matters, Comrade Bayo Shegede, former Special Assistant on Youth and Chevron, Hon. Omogbemi Sunday, former SSA on Oil &Gas, Hon. Obasuwaye Sam, former Caretaker Chairman of Ilaje local government, Hon. Nomiye Adegbenro. Others include; former councillor, Hon. Aribo Orimisan, former SA to the Governor, Hon. Babatunde Lepe, Chairman NURTW Igbokoda, Prince Ikuemelo Reku, Comrade Shegede Akintoye, Prince Ogunfeyimi Oyewunmi and the Coordinator of National Youth Council, Comrade Ekudehinwa Segun.
