As the world celebrate Malaria Day,Ondo State Government is. concluding plans to begin house to house distribution of about three million insecticide treated mosquito nets.
Speaking on World Malaria Day, the Ondo State Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary ,Dr. Taye Oni said the State in partnership with Catholic Relief Services is about to take delivery of about three million insecticide treated nets which will be distributed from house to house for free.
Dr. Oni said such an exercise took place last in 2012 and those nets would have lost their potency thus have to be replaced.
He revealed that Nigeria has achieved a lot of reduction in malaria burden by twenty- one percent and death, especially of women and children by twenty-nine percent.
The Health Permanent Secretary who said the focus for this year is prevention disclosed that the Government and the World Health Organisation is working on closing the prevention gap.
The State Epidemiologist and Programme Officer for Malaria, Dr.Waheed Afolayan said the reduction in the prevalence of Malaria was largely due to the use of insecticide treated mosquito nets while encouraging the people of the state to improve on its use and intensify efforts in environmental sanitation.
