The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has commended the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN for fulfilling his promise over the payment of workers' salary as and when due. The party also noted that the governor since he has taken over government in February this year has ensured the payment of backlog of salaries owed by the immediate past government.
This is contained in a statement made available by the Director of Media and Publicity of the party, Mr. Steve Otaloro to our reporters on a social media yesterday.
According to the statement: "We (APC) are very happy with the Governor, a man of integrity, for making his word his bond and particularly for righting the wrongs done to workers in the state.
"Civil servants in Ondo State received have their salaries to celebrate the Easter season, while many have just begun to believe that the Akeredolu-led administration has started to mark the dawn of a new era in the state.
"It would be recalled that immediately the governor assumed office he constituted a panel to look into the seven month salary backlog being owed the state workers by the immediate past administration.
"The panel, which was made of top civil servants in the state and headed by the Deputy Governor, looked into the cause of the unfortunate development and the possibility of settling the backlog.
"Governor Akeredolu, while assuring the entire state workforce of his commitment to their welfare, vowed that he with his appointees would not receive their salaries until the state workers have received theirs.
"This promise was taken with a pinch of salt by the traumatised workers dismissing it as one of those political statements. But he has proved them wrong as within a span of two months, the governor had paid workers up to date and also added one month arrears owed workers in the state."
In the statement, Otaloro said that the people of the state have been expressing their heart-felt appreciation to the Governor for the development which has cut across different sectors as workers went on shopping spree ahead of Easter Sunday.
"It's on record that the last Yuletide was nothing to write home about as civil servants in the state were not paid their salaries by the immediate past administration and they were unable to buy food for their families. But God in His infinite mercy through Governor Akeredolu had put smiles on workers' faces this Easter.
"We, APC, are assuring the people of the state that what has happened so far is a tip of the iceberg, the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration would turn our state round in all sectors of the economy" he stated
The party, however, urged the people of the state, particularly civil servants, to continue to work hard and support the Governor in his redemption plans to turn around the economy of the state that has been bastardized and crippled completely for it to resurrect and blossom again.
