Why we picked James Ibori upon arrival from UK – DSS

The Director General of the Department of State Services, DSS, has explained that he discussed issues of national interest with former Delta State Governor, James Ibori immediately he arrived from the United Kingdom, UK.

Daura made the disclosure while addressing newsman in Abuja, on Saturday.

According to the DSS boss, "He met me for a short debriefing session and way forward; also, to welcome him back to his fatherland. We are also meeting soon to discuss issues of interest affecting the nation."

Recall that Ibori had arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, earlier today, following his release from a UK prison after serving his sentence.

Upon his arrival, he was picked by operatives of the secret police and taken to their headquarters in Abuja, where he had a meeting with Daura.

Ibori was on April 17, 2012 convicted of corruption and money laundering.

The Southwark Crown Court, UK, sentenced him to 13 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a 10-count charge of money laundering.

Following his conviction, the former governor's properties including his houses, cars were confiscated.

Ibori who is currently in his hometown of Oghara in Delta State was received amidst celebration and joy.

An associate of the ex-convict, Andy Asavwota, expressed delight at the return of the former governor.

Asavwota, who is the former Secretary of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, likened Ibori to Jesus Christ who was against suffering of people.‎
