The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday arrested the chairman of the Ondo State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission, Mr. Johnson Ogunyemi .
According to Punch, also arrested by the operative were Permanent Secretary of the commission, Dr. Dipo Durojaye, the Director of Finance Administration, Mr. Sola Orisamoluwa and Director of Account, Mr. Vincent Ikuomola.
It was gathered that the operatives of the anti-graft commission entered into the premises of the OSOPADEC at Oba-Ile Akure in Akure North Local Government Area of the state at about 12 noon and went straight to the administrative building where they arrested the senior management staff of the commission.
When our correspondent visited the OSOPADEC office, the chairman and other arrested officials were seen being taken away by the EFCC operatives in a white 14-passenger Toyota bus while two Hilux vans escorted them.
The development, for some hours, conspicuously disrupted the official work at the commission as workers came outside their offices to watch the drama. Some of them were seen in groups outside discussing the matter.
A senior official of the commission who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity said the arrest of the management staff was not unconnected with certain financial mismanagement in the commission.
He said, "Honestly, we just saw those EFCC men in our premises this afternoon, going to the chairman's office. But I believe that the arrest would be in connection with some financial impropriety and mismanagement in the commission."
