AAUA undergraduate’s death: Police begin probe

The State Criminal and Intelligence Department (SCID) of Ondo State Police Command is currently probing into the death of an 18 years old student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akugba Akoko in Ondo State, Miss Omoyemi Akinbamiwa who was reportedly shot dead by suspected secret cult members at Akure Garage roundabout in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Newsmen gathered that the deceased was killed last week while returning home from her mother's restaurant  located at Akure garage with her two younger brothers when suddenly three suspected gunmen believed to be cult members who rode on motorcycle popularly called Okada shot her at the back.

She was said to have fell down bleeding profusely while the suspects on realising the gravity of the offence committed zoomed off on their motorbike to an unknown destination.

It was learnt that some sympathisers who rushed to the scene of the incident took the bleeding young lady to the Ondo State Specialist Hospital in Ondo town for treatment but  she was said to have died on the way.

Crime detectives who got the information of the unfortunate incident visited the scene of the crime took photograph of the deceased and deposited the body at the mortuary for possible autopsy examination.

The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph, a Superintendent of Police (SP) who confirmed the incident said the deceased was with her brothers when the suspected hoodlums shot at her.

He said the deceased did not die immediately, was rushed to the hospital but on their way, she gave up the ghost.

He assured the family of the deceased that the Police will leave no stone unturned towards ensuring that justice is done in the matter.

He appealed to the  members of the public with useful information that could assist the Police to track down the suspected killers to forward it to the Police as every information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

In a related development, a 13 years old boy, Rilwan Musa has been arrested by the Police for allegedly pushing a 14-year-old boy, Gbolahan Falowo to the river, causing his untimely death.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the deceased and four of his mates were alleged to have gone to river Soka along Lagos/Ore road to bath and wash their clothes.

Police sources said while they were all busy playing beside the river, Rilwan Musa suddenly pushed Falowo inside the river and he got drowned and consequently died.

Crime detectives from Ore Police Division who visited the scene recovered the remains of the deceased and took photographs before depositing it at the mortuary for autopsy.

The PPRO who also confirmed the incident said the police are investigating the two incidents.
